Write a short paragraph by using if clauses type 1.

Compare and contrast our and the other customs’
superstitions.

Play a board game by making first conditional
sentences.

PRE READING ( 10 Minutes)
The teacher sticks a word on the board. It is SUPERSTITIONS. S/he wants the students
to say what comes to their mind. s/he sticks the pictures on the board
according to students’ respond . S/he asks these questions to the students:
·
Do you get nervous when a black cat walks in front of you?
·
Do you avoid walking under ladders?
·
If you broke a mirror would you expect to get 7 years' bad luck?

WHILE READING (15 Minutes)
The teacher ;
·
Divides the class into groups of 4.
·
Gives each group of the students the story strips.
·
Tells the students to put the paragraphs of the
story in order.
·
Checks the order with the class.
·
Reads out first paragraph or phrase from each
paragraph in order.
·
Asks the students to read the text again and make a
list of superstitions.
·
Checks the answers with the class.

POST READING (15 Minutes)
The teacher;
·
Asks the students to discuss the superstitions. They
discuss and mark the superstitions which are from our culture.
·
Checks the answers with the class.
·
Asks ‘’ Do you know any other superstitions?’’

ACTIVITY ( 15 Minutes)
The teacher
·
Divides the class into groups of 4.
·
Gives a paper to each group. The paper includes 9 if
clauses sentences.
·
Wants them to continue the sentence, and make a
meaningful passage. The first sentences main clause should be the second
sentences if clause. So it will be a chain.
·
Shows an example. After every group finish writing,
they read the passage in front of the board.
Example:
If I move to another city, I will miss my friends.
If I miss my friends, I will call them.
If I call them, I will invite them here.
If I invite them, they will come here.

GAME ( 15Minutes)
The teacher
·
Makes one copy
of the game board for every three to four students in the class.
·
Provides dice
and counters for each group.
·
Asks the
students to work in groups of three or four.
·
Gives one game
board, counters and dice to each group.
·
Before the students start playing the game, explain
how the first conditional is used and structured. Explain to the students
that we use it to talk about likely situations and describe their results.
All the
players put their counters on the square marked START and throw the dice. The
first player to throw a six starts the game.
Player A throws the dice and moves their counter
along the board according to the number on the dice.
Player A then reads the words on the square they
have landed on and makes a sentence beginning with If... using the
words in the square. They can finish the sentence any way they like, but it
must be appropriate, grammatically correct, and make sense. If the group is
unsure about a sentence, they can reject it.
If a player can’t finish off the sentence
appropriately, they miss a go.
If a player lands on a square marked if, they can
make any first conditional sentence.
The game continues until the first player reaches
the square marked FINISH. This player is the winner.
While they are playing, the teacher goes around to each group and
checks they are playing correctly. Answer questions and offer help.

PROJECT WORK (10 Minutes)
The teacher

Shows some picture to the students and ask

1.3. What do you remember by looking the pictures?
·
Divides the class into groups of 5.
·
Says
1.1. Imagine that you are candidate of President election.
1.2. Prepare an election poster as in the example.
1.3. You promise to your people. For example, ‘’ if you vote for me, I will
bring sea to Bolu.’’
1.4. I want you to write at least 5 sentences.

WARM UP (10
Minutes)
The teacher asks the students these questions:
·
Where were you at the weekend?
·
What did you do on Saturday?
·
Did you go the cinema on Sunday?

MAIN ACTIVITY (20 Minutes)
The teacher divides the class into groups of four.
S/he gives each student in the group a different diary and chart. The diary
is about to 4 students’ last week. The teacher says ‘’ You will complete the
chart by using diary. ‘’
Then they put together their charts and compare
them. They find out on which person did the same activity and when they did
it. For example, Sam and pat went to the restaurant on Monday.
After they finish, the teacher checks the answers
with the class. One student from each group says the activities in turn by
using simple past tense. The teacher asks

In which day they did the same thing?
·
In which day two of them did same thing?
·
What did they do?

FOLLOW UP (10 Minutes)
The teacher gives them another chart. They complete
the column me with six different imaginary or real activities. They then ask
questions to find out what other students did and write in the others column
the name of any student who did the same activity.

ACTIVITY (20 Minutes)
The teacher asks the students ;
·
Do you remember your all memories?
·
What is your worst memory?
·
What is your best memory?
·
How did you feel?
The teacher splits the class into groups of 5. S/he
gives each group a set of cards. The teacher asks them to shuffle the cards
and places them face down on the table. Students take it in turns to pick up
the cards from the pile. Firstly the teacher picks up a card from box and
talks about the topics on the card using. The student will make the same
thing. The rest of the group asks questions to get the person to speak more.
Then, next student takes a card and so on.

ACTIVITY (20 Minutes)
The teacher
·
Asks the students to work in groups of five.
·
Tells them that they are going to write a story
about a holiday romance by imagining answers to some questions.
·
Asks each group of five students to sit in a circle.
·
Gives a copy them of the worksheet to each student
·
Asks them to write their name at the top and then
fold the paper as indicated.
The students should hand their paper to the person
on their right. The students on the right answers the first question by
inventing details and writing the answer in the space provided. The student
the folds the paper and passes the paper to the person on the right who
answers the next question and so on.
At the end of the activity, the teacher collects the
students’ imaginary story and checks them. After checking, the teacher
distributes the story to the groups. The teacher asks each group to choose
the best story from their group. This story can be read aloud to the class.
The class then votes for the best story.
