Objectives:
At the end of the lesson,
1- Students will be able to identify certain health problems (headache, toothache, fever, cold, cut, measles…) by using the structure ‘have/has (got)…’
2- Students will be able to give some advice (to take an aspirin, to have a rest, to go to a doctor/dentist, etc…) by using the structure ‘should…’
INTRODUCTION
The teacher enters into the classroom and greets the students.
T: Good morning children.
S: Good morning teacher.
T: How are you today?
S: Fine, thanks. And you?
T: Err... I am not fine today, I do not feel myself good. I think, I have a problem. I have a health problem. (by putting his hand on his head.)
The teacher writes ‘HEALTH PROBLEM’ on the board and then,
T: Do you know? What is health problem?
(The teacher provides/gives some vocabulary related to health problems. The teacher asks the students some concept checking questions to help them in guessing the words.)
SONG ACTIVITY
Instruction:
T: Now, we will sing a song. O.K?
The teacher plays a CD.
T: Now, we will sing it all together. Ok?
The teacher sings the song with the students.
T: Now, I will say only this parts (health problems and questions) and you will say only these parts (advice) after me. Ok?
They sing the song together again but partially
GAME ACTIVITY
Activity 1: Matching Eggs
The teacher has 6 eggs including certain health problems and has 12 eggs including some advice for each problem.
Instruction:
First, the teacher shows 6 eggs including health problems to the students.
T: There are 6 health problems in these eggs, from number 1 to number 6 Ok?
Then the teacher shows the 12 eggs including some advice for each problem.
T: And there are advice for each problem here, Ok?
T: Three of you will come here. And one of you will choose for example the number 1. And then he or she will open and read the health problem in it. For example, ‘I have a headache’ Ok? After then, others will choose the number 1A and 1B and open and read the advice in it, Ok? You will match these numbers with the same numbers. Is it clear?
T: Let’s start. Who wants to come?
Activity 2: Throw & Catch
The teacher has a ball in his hand.
Instruction:
T: Now, we will play another game. Ok?
T: First, I will say a health problem, for example I have a headache. Then I will say a name, for example Arafat, and I will throw the ball to Arafat. And then I will ask ‘What should I do?’. He will give an advice to me. For example, ‘You should take an aspirin.’ After then, he will say a health problem and he will throw the ball to anyone in the class and he will ask ‘what should I do?’. The another person will give an advice. This game will continue from one student to another. Ok?
