LESSON PLAN 2

Teacher: Cigdem YOLERI
Age Group: 15
Lesson Title: Past Tense
Duration: 40’
Equipment Needed: Whiteboard, smart-board, pieces of paper that written verbs and time expressions  

Objectives:
·         At the end of the lesson students can understand past tense, tell apart the present simple and the past tense each other,
·         Ss will be able to make sentences in the past tense.

Aim:
·         To encourage students to use the structure,
·         To make students to understand the past tense sentences by using exercises,
·         To make students to form sentences with past tense verbs and time expressions,
·         To make students more active with hands on activities and group activity.

New vocabulary items:
·         Bang, ground, shot, hit…

Procedure:
Introduction:
The lesson starts with a song, “Nancy Sinatra- Bang Bang”. Then ask them what do they now about past tense, wait their answers.

Presentation/warm-up:
Explain the past tense and make sentence and also make the students form sentences in past tense.

Activity:
Students will be separated into 5 groups. They choose randomly 2 papers that written verb and 2 papers that written time expressions from the box. They will have just 5 minutes to make 2 meaningful sentences with verbs and time expressions in past tense. Then they will say their sentences and write them on the whiteboard. Ask the students “Is this sentence correct and meaningful?” If there is incorrect sentence, Ss come to board and change it. After this activity ends, listen them the song again and ask them to find out the verb that are written in past tense. Ask them to find the verbs and then open lyric without verbs. Ask them to listen again the music and fill out the lyric with past tense verbs. After they fill, check the answers together. At the end of the lesson open the same song but this time the singer is David Guetta. The song is with lyric. Ask them to watch the clip and check their answers according to clip.

Reading:
Ss read their sentences loudly.

Speaking:
Ss form sentences in past form, and say their sentences to their friends.

Writing:
Ss write sentences with the given verbs and time expressions to papers and then to the whiteboard. Ss fill in the blanks of the songs lyric.

Listening:
Ss listen music which is full of past tense verbs.

Assessment:
            Students learn with hands on experiments and cooperative learning activities. Students give correct answers to the exercises and make class discussion to find the correct answers.

Contingency Plan:

If the time is not enough, give limited time and make Ss listen to music just 2 times.
