LESSON PLAN 

Teachers: Ümmühan Polat
Learning Stage of Class: Pre-intermediate
Age Level of Class: 13-14
Size of Class: 35
Grade: 9th Grade
Duration: 40 minutes
Grammar structure: Simple Past Tense
Equipment needed: Two copies of two worksheets including exercises related to simple past tense for each student (one for the main activity and one for the post activity) and a song called Paradise by Coldplay


OBJECTIVES/GOALS:
1. By the end of the lesson students will be able to distinguish the simple past tense structure in a song by developing their listening skills.
2. By the end of the lesson students will be able to talk about their experiences in the past by using simple past tense.
3. Students will be able to make sentences associated with the simple past tense with negative, positive and question form by using writing skills at the end of the lesson.

Warm up 

• Sharing the worst day with the students by using speaking skills and asking them to listen to the experience carefully to find out the key structures like two weeks ago, last week

Pre-activity:

• Asking them the students to write their best day by using the structures they have learned and then reading their experiences to be heard by the rest of the class

Main activity 
• Preparing worksheets about the past simple tense forms. There is a fill in the blanks activity on first page and also it includes some little pictures. 
• Making students try to fill in the blanks with past forms and try to find the right answers of the pictures .In the second page, there are some sentences and they try to write these sentences' negative, positive and question form.
• Before giving worksheets to students, writing down some sentences on the board and giving some key words that are used with past forms.
• Explaining to students what they will do with worksheets. 
• Telling students that they can look irregular verbs list on their books if they have difficulty in recognizing. 
• Giving 15 minutes to the students to complete the first page. 
• After finishing the activity, choosing students to read sentences that they wrote down.


Post activity 

• Explaining the students that they are going to listen to a song called Paradise by Coldplay to complete the sentences in the worksheets which are distributed by the teacher
• Making the students listen to the song once and distributing the worksheets to them
• Telling the students that they are going to listen to the song one more time by filling in the blanks in the worksheet this time and having the students to listen to the song again
• Asking them to change their sheets with their partner and explaining them that they are going to listen to the song last time and asking them to check if their partner’s answer is true
• Asking them to complete the sentence which their partner can’t with the correct form
