The First Lesson Plan by Orhan Karın

Equipment needed:Pictures, camera, microphone, worksheets, white board, board marker, smart board, cartoons,

Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
ü  Recognize some target vocabulary items such as “environment, pollution, water pollution, air pollution, land pollution, noise pollution, base station, deforestation” related to the topic.

ü  Practice the use of the structure of simple present tense “I do…/I do not…” while finding possible solutions about the situations given.

ü  Interview with other persons through a problem posing and solving activity.

ü  Make a poster which includes a slogan like “Save your planet” to show their awareness to the protection of the environment.


 PRESENTATION

v  Pre

Teacher comes into the classroom and greets the students. Teacher throws a plastic bottle on the ground, then teacher throws again sheets of paper and finally teacher throws portakalkabuğu. Then, teacher asks students what he is doing. Teacher asks them whether he is getting the class (environment) clean or dirty. Teacher elicits the target vocabulary item “pollution” from the students. And then, teacher teaches vocabulary items through colored pictures. (15 min)

Activity 1

Teacher then gives students a matching activity to internalize the types of pollution. (10 min)



v  While

Activity1 
Teacher explains students that they are going to work in groups. Teacher poses students some different problematic situations related to preserving the environment, in mini envelopes. The students are expected to find and write at least 3 solutions according to that problem that they have been posed. (10)

Activity 2
Then, the students in any groups go and ask other groups about their problem and of course solutions. But here, the students have some roles like a cameraman and interviewer. It is also important that one group is allowed to go only one selected group by the teacher. For example, group A will go and ask only group B. (15)

v  Post

Activity 1 

Teacher asks students to prepare a poster which includes a slogan. The students prepare their own posters according to the guidance of the teacher. So, teacher shows some examples of the posters to help them. (20 min)

Activity 2

When the students create their own posters, all class votes them and the best poster is chosen. Then they hang it to the wall in the classroom. (10 min)




It is actually a lesson plan which considers students' decisions and then aims to conduct itself according to the decisions of students. I can say, the plan promotes 'democracy' amongst students.
