LESSON PLAN 2

AGE GROUP                   : 15
LEVEL OF PROFICIENCY  :  Elementary
LESSON TITLE                : What does the sign say?
DURATION                     : 80
SIZE OF CLASS              :30

OBJECTIVES/GOALS: by the end of the lesson, students will be able
1. to identify the signs about town and country
2. to practice imperatives using signs
3. to design a poster about classroom signs

PRE-READING

I show them photos of various typical town and country scenes.(river, farm, street, railway station, beach, building) ı ask students to say exactly where the photos were taken. I try to elicit the places names in Exercise A.
I show each photo again. This time ı want them to imagine that there is a sign in the photo. I ask them “What could the sign say?” ı elicit their suggestions e.g.  No fishing near a river.
WHILE- READING
I give each student a photocopy. I ask them to match the signs 1-12 with the places in Exercise A.
I ask them to look at the signs 13-18 and decide where they would find these signs. I point out that six places are in the list in Exercise A.
I want them to look at signs 13-18. There are two options for each sign. They choose the right one.
I make a chart on the board. It contains some headings (information, warning, prohibition, instruction) ı write some examples and notes to explain the meaning of the headings.( information = tell you what something for you = Exit )
I want them to put signs 13-18 into the four categories in the chart.
POST- READING

I divide them into groups of 4 and want them to find some different kinds of signs that we use in the class and discuss them with each other. I want them to make a poster with their signs. I hand out them colorful papers. I choose the most attractive one and hang it on the wall.
