Lesson Plan 2 - edmodo - CALL 2015 TASK

LESSON PLAN

Title of the lesson   : Theme 4, People and Society-Types of People (Yes You Can, A2.3 student’s book)
Duration of the lesson: 80 minutes
Vocabulary: ''at a bank, at a hospital, at a post office, at a restaurant, keep dry, handle, with care, fragile.''
Equipment needed: pictures related to the topic types of people, teacher’s book, whiteboard, listening tape and CD and marker.
Objectives:
1- Within 15 minutes the students will be able to recall the vocabulary items related to ‘’Types of People.’’                                                                                               
2- By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to discuss about types of people with each other.                                                                                                                       
3- By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to form sentences using words related to the topic ‘’Types of People.’’

PRESENTATION          
Warm-up (15 minutes)

The teacher greets the students, and asks how are you. After, in order to create a context the teacher tells the students that now I will show you some pictures and you will tell me what do you see in the pictures. Then the teacher starts to show the pictures one by one and asks the students what do you see in the pictures. After the students responded the questions, the teacher writes each word on the board one by one. Then the teacher tells the students that now you will tell me where can you see them. The teacher starts to show the pictures of the symbols and asks the students where can you see them. As the students answer the teacher writes the possible places of the symbols on the board. After the students answered, the teacher continues with the main activity. By this way, the teacher prepares the students for the main activity.


While-activity (45 minutes)
   
As a main activity the teacher first tells the students that, there is a matching activity and you need to match the symbols to their meanings, you will work individually, you have 5 minutes. While the students matching the symbols to their meanings teacher walks around the class, monitors them and helps if they need. After five minutes, the teacher asks the students are you finished if they say yes the teacher checks the answers with them, if not the teacher gives them 2 minutes extra time. After the teacher checked the answers with the students, he tells them that there is listening text about a dialogue in a post office and you will listen to it for three times. But first you will listen to it to understand what it is about. Then the teacher asks the students are you ready and if they say yes, he plays the tape. After the first listening, the teacher tells the students that, now you will listen to it and you will try to complete the questions in the dialogue. Then the teacher plays the tape. After the students listened to the dialogue for the second time and completed the missing parts, the teacher tells the students that now you will listen to it for the last time to check your answers. The teacher plays the tape and pauses it at some parts and checks the answers with the students. Later, the teacher tells the students that now you will work in pairs and you need to think about how many ways of sending are possible at the post office, do you think the sender’s parcel is large or small, give reasons for your answers, you have 10 minutes. While the students discussing their ideas and thoughts with their pairs the teacher walks around the class, monitors the students and helps if they ask or need. After 10 minutes, the teacher asks the students that are you finished discussing if they say yes the teacher asks the students are there any volunteers to share their ideas with the class, if not the teacher gives students 3 minutes extra time. After some of the students shared their ideas, the teacher continues with the post-activity.

Post-activity (20 minutes)
As a post activity the teacher first tells the students that, now you will work in pairs, you will examine the dialogue in activity C and write a similar dialogue with your partner, you have 10 minutes. While the students trying to write a dialogue as in the activity C the teacher walks around the class, monitors them and helps the students if they need or ask. After 10 minutes, the teacher asks the students that are you finished if they say yes the teacher tells them that now please act out your dialogue with your partner, if not the teacher gives them 3 minutes extra time to complete their dialogues. After the students acted out their dialogues with their partners, the teacher tells them that now please change your roles and act out your dialogue again. After the students acted out their dialogues again, the teacher tells them that are there any volunteers to act out their dialogue in front of the class. After some of the students acted out their dialogue in front of the class, the teacher ends the lesson by saying see you in next week!
