LESSON TITLE                  : HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF EXPLORING THE DESERT
DURATION                           :  40 MIN.
TEXTBOOK                           : TRAVELLER
Materials Needed:
1)       Smart board
2)      CD playing
3)      Board marker
4)      Course book

OBJECTIVES;
·         Students will be able to make sentences by using vocabulary related to weather.
·         Students will be able to recognise main idea of the text
READING LESSON
Warm up
Teacher draws students attention to the title of the lesson and ask them to tell  what they think it is about. After eliciting the answers, teacher asks What do you know about desert? And then teacher gives extra information related to desert. At the end of the presentation, they watch a video related to Sahara Desert.
Pre – (15’)
Teacher asks students to tell any deserts they know  and where they are located. (e.g. the Sahara Desert- Africa, the Kalahari Desert- Africa ). Then, teacher draws their attention to the words given and make sure that students don’t have any unknown words and can relate the words to the symbols.

While- (30’)
Teacher wants them to read the text quickly,and match the headings a-e with the paragraphs 1-4. Then teacher wants them to find extra one. After that, they read again and answer the questions ( multiple choice).

POST-   (16’)
After reading text and answering questions, teacher wants them to pass another activities. ( fill in the blanks, match the words  ..)
Activity  (6’):
-          Teacher draws students’ attention to the vocabulary activity.
-          Teacher checks the answers with the class.
-          Teacher elicits answers.
Activity  (10’):
-          Teacher wants them to make sentences with the given words ( desert, sunny, hot,..)
-          Teacher checks the answers with the class.
-          Teacher elicits answers.

Duration of the lesson: 80 min.                                                                                              
Equipment needed:Realia, pictures, worksheets, white board, board marker, smart board, cartoons, textbook, Cd, listening text and track.                                         


Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
ü  Recognize some target vocabulary items such as “menu, bill, tip; waiter, waitress, starter, main course, dessert, and chef”” related to the context of a restaurant.

ü  Revise and practice the use of the structure “Would you like to…? I’d like to…” for the purpose of ordering a meal in a restaurant in their daily lives.

ü  Prepare their own menus considering the target vocabulary items such as “a starter, a main course, a dessert and a drink” and make a selection from their menus.


                                                       PRESENTATION


Warm-up

Teacher enters into the classroom and greets the students. Teacher mentions about the dinner which he had in a restaurant with his friends last night. While talking about his story, teacher shows some authentic materials and some other pictures related to the vocabulary items such as “menu, bill, tip; waiter, waitress, starter, main course, dessert, and chef” and combine them with his story about the dinner. Teacher also uses his body language to make the meaning clear for the students. Teacher then asks concept checking questions to get feedback from students and see their understanding of the introduction. (15 min)

Activity

Then, teacher gets the students engaged with a matching activity which provides students to consolidate the meanings of the target vocabulary items. Teacher here gives them a worksheet and the students match the words with their definitions.(15 min)

Activity 1

Teacher here tells the students that they are going to listen to a conversation with a woman and a waiter. They listen to the conversation for three times. For the first time, they just listen and try to understand what the main idea is. For the second time, they listen and complete the dialogue with target structures that they have learned before. For the third time, they listen and check the answers together. (15 min)

Activity 2

Teacher here tells the students that they are going to work in pairs and act the dialogue given out. (10 min)

Activity 1


 Teacher tells the students that they are going to work individually. Teacher then shows the students a prepared menu as an example. The students prepare their own menus and each of them must include a starter, a main course, a dessert and a drink. The focus here is those subtitles related to the target vocabulary items. The students can choose any food or drink from the dialogue. Additionally, they can write their own meal items. (15 min)

Activity 2


 When the students prepare their own menus, they work in pairs. They ask their partners what he or she would like to have/drink/eat by providing the menus they have prepared in the previous activity. (10 min)
