Lesson Title: Health

Duration: 40 min

Equipment Needed: Flashcards, Worksheets, Board, Board marker, Puppet

Aim:

·         Learning body parts ·         Learning illnesses ·         Making simple suggestions ·         Talking about illnesses

Objective:

·         Students will be able to identify body parts at least five names of body parts by using pictures.(nose, foot, arm, mouth, eye)

·         Students will be able to identify illnesses at least five names of body parts by using pictures.(headache, stomachache, flu, backache, cough )

·         Students will be able to answer the question about body parts

·         Students will be able to use simple phrases and sentences to express what illness they have, and what they do before the illnesses.

PROCEDURE

Step 1: Teacher comes to class. Brings a picture to the class and ask students “ what dou you see on this Picture” . students give some answers like; a boy, arm... If the anwers are wrong, teacher make the answers correct.(10 min.)  

Step 2: She puts some pictures on the board and make with students brainstorming. She writes the name of body parts and repeat it with students three times.(15 min.)

Step 3: Teacher bring to the class a puppet. It looks like a doctor. Teacher shows it to students and says “Doctor Phil is our guest today. He wants to speak with you” then Doctor Phil read a passage about suggestion. These suggestions are protection from illnesses. The passage is also on the board. Students read it also. Doctor Phil read it again. (15)

Step 4: Teacher turns to the class and asks students a question: “what is your suggestions?” “think about it “ then teacher gives a break.

Title of the lesson: Giving Advice

Structures: should, ought to

Duration of the lesson: 70-80 minutes

Equipment needed: Video, worksheet, smart board,flash cards

OBJECTIVES;

1.By the end of the lesson students will be able to recognize how to give an advice a preson by using some structures like should, souldnt, ought to and etc.

2.By the end of the lesson students will be able to practice to find a solution for a problem by using their productive skills.

Pre-Teaching(15-20 mins)

Activity

Teacher enters into the classroom and greets the students. When students ask teacher how are teacher says not bad, because my computer has virus and I dont know how to delete it. Can you give me an advice?students answer and teacher writes them on the board. Then  teacher shows a video. Firstly they just listen and try to catch structures. Second time they notes the structure. Then teacher asks some questions related with the video such as,

-          What is the topic?

-          What kind of structure that used in the video?

-          Is there any mistake about structures?

They check questions with their teacher.

While –Teaching(25-30 mins)

Activity

At the beginning of the lesson teacher ask the language for giving advice and writes them on the board, such as;

-          You should ...

-          I think you should/ought to...

-          Why don’t you ...?

-          I suggest you...

-          I would give an advice..

Then divides the class into groups of  five,gives each group a set of cards and ask them to put the set of cards face down in a pile. Students take it in turns to turn over a card. They explain their problems to the group, and the other students have to give advice. Each student in the group has to give a different piece of advice. The student gives the card to the person who has given the best advice The student who collects the most cards is the winner. When everyone has finished, students report back to the class on the best or worst piece of advice they received for each situation.

Post –Teaching(25-30 mins)

Activity

Teacher gives a worksheet to pair , and tells students imagine that they run an advice column called "GÜZİN ABLA."  They read each e-mail and try to find a solution and give advices to the mails owner. Students create a problem and an advice with their partners. When they complete their works the volunteer students make  role  paly share their advices and they choose the best one.

You run an advice column called "GÜZİN ABLA." Read each e-mail below and then write a reply. Try to give the best advice you can. Make sure you begin with a phrase for "giving advice,”  and try to give fun and interesting answers. Use the structures like ’’ What should I do? What do you think I should do? What would you suggest I do?’’

LESSON PLAN 1

TEACHER:  Fulya Sema Kistik

TOPIC:Breakfast

LANGUAGE POINT : Like/Don’t Like Structure

GRADE:  5th Grade

SIZE:  17 Students

DURATION : 20 Minutes

VOCABULARY :Tea, Coffee, Milk, Jam, Olive

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, students will be able;

·        To recognize the words

·        To practice the words in spoken language.

·        To match the words with the pictures.

REVISION

·        At the beginning of the lesson , the teacher will ask that what do the students remember about the last week, what they have learnt.The teacher will do brainstorming activity by showing the pictures to remember the words ( butter, egg, honey, orange juice,cheese) which the students have learnt in the last week.

PRE-ACTIVITY

·        The teacher will show her fridge to attract to students’ attantions. And the teacher show three pictures (Milk, Jam, Olive)from the fridge one by one and ask that what is this. For the other two words ( coffee , tea ) the teacher will use her tray. Because these words are not suitable to put to fridge. After the teacher learn their opinion about the pictures the teacher will say the correct answer. And for each picture the teacher will say that  I like…. / I don’t like…. .Then the teacher will ask their opinions by asking that do you like….. . And she will stick the pictures to the board and write the names of pictures. To teach their pronounciations the teacher will repeat the words three times and the teacher wants them to repeat also.

WHILE - ACTIVITY

·        After the teacher be sure that the students have idea about the new words (tea,coffee, milk, jam,olive) the teacher will continue with the activity.The teacher will clean the board for the activity.Before the teacher will distrubute the activity sheets shewill stick the big activity sheets which is same the students’ to the board. And the teacher will give an example by showing. The aim is giving example before the students start. And the teacher will give an instruction by saying that now you will work in pair. I will give you the activity sheet , you will select the words and find the correct pictures and stick them under the pictures.( If the students have problem to understand the teacher will demonstrate again). The teacher will point that you have 5 minutes for the activity.While the students are doing the activity the teacher will walk around the class and help them. The teacher will give a sticker to the students who finish the activity. When the time is over the students that be volunteer will come to the board and find the correct pictures by matching the words with the pictures.

CONTINGENCY PLAN

·        To check the while activity the the students that be volunteer will come to the board. If there is no volunteer the teacher will choose someone the name from the list of class by closing her eyes. And the teacher will encourage the student who comes to the board.

·        If the teacher have time at the end of the lesson she will repeat the new words.

Lesson Title:  Appearance and Personality

Duration: 40 minutes

Equipment Needed: Board, Board marker, textbook, vocabulary cards.

Aim:

·         To teach some vocabularies’ pronunciation.

·         To comprehend some pronunciations’ differences between vocabulary.

Objective:

·         By the end of the lesson, students will be able to improve their pronunciation thanks to game activity.

·         By the end of the lesson, students will be able to comprehend the difference between some words’ pronunciation.

PROCEDURE

Step 1: Teacher comes to class and greets the students and she gives topic of appearance and personality with a context. She asks vocabularies’ pronunciation one by one and she provides to speak as gives time to everyone.

Step 2  Teacher says game time. Firstly she explains how to play it and arranges their seating arrangement suitably. Teacher starts the game as tells word somebodies’ ear silently. Students always try to tell correctly vocabularies’ pronunciation to their friends’ ear because wrong pronunciation spoils the game. With this game teacher determines whose pronunciation has a problem and thus she can be very interested them in case errorless.

Lesson Title: Biography

Duration: 40 minutes

Equipment Needed:. Board, boardmarker, twister cartoon

Aim:

·         To teach some vocabularies about biography

·         To teach these vocabularies’ pronunciation.

Objective:

      By the end of the lesson, students will be able to improve their pronunciation via twister game.

      By the end of the lesson, students will be able to reinforce their background as repeat vocabularies in unit 2.

PROCEDURE

Step 1:  Teacher comes to class and greets the students. she starts to ask previous lessons’ vocabulary. She attracts students’ attention in this way. She introduces the lesson and she tells the class it is about biographies. She shows the flashcard again thus she provides to remember the vocabularies and some structures, she provides to distinguish in between them. As teacher observes their pronunciation, they repeat again and again.

Step 2: Teacher gives instruction and time them for do exercises on textbook. After time finishes, they check together and teacher always says them vocabularies’ pronunciation.

Step 3: Teacher says game time and explains how to play twister. She divides the class into 5 groups. She gives finger twister cartoon to every group. When come to turn, student tries to pronounce correctly as put his/her finger above vocabulary. Teacher listens their pronunciation one by one. She tries to correct mistakes. It is a group work activity and it includes difficult words to pronounce in unit 2. After students finish, teacher checks them on the board. Students try to speak as pay attention words’ pronunciation.
