LESSON PLAN

Level of proficiency: intermediate                Title of the lesson   : Profile of a Circus Performance

Duration of the lesson: 40 minutes            

Equipment needed: worksheets, teacher’s book, whiteboard and maker.

Objectives:

Ø  Within 20 minutes the students will be able to recall the words related to circus such as: monkey clown etc.
Ø  By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to explain the reasons of why they would like to be a circus performer, if they don’t want, what are the reasons to they don’t want.

Ø  By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to create sentences using words related to circus.

PRESENTATION
Pre-activity

               The teacher greets the students, introduces himself and asks them how their last weekend was. After, in order to create a context the teacher tells the students that they are going to read a magazine article about someone who works in circus. Get the students to suggest words related circus e.g. Monkey, clown e.g. and write them on the board. Introduce the words in the Keys language if the students don’t mention them themselves.

Main activity

                The teacher gives each student a photocopy. Teacher asks them that what is the name of this woman in the photo? What is her job? Then teacher asks that students look at the paragraph headings in A with the class. Students then read the text and match the headings with the paragraphs. And then asks the students read the text again. They find the words in the text from B and work out what they refer to.
Then teacher asks students to underline the sentences in the text about the past. Get individual students to read out a sentence each. Teacher should make sure that students taught, bought and restored.
After that, teacher asks students to answer the questions in C. And then teacher allows students time to read the text again and answer the questions in D.
Post activity

Teacher asks students if they would like to work in a circus. Why? / Why not?
