Lesson Plan


Student-teacher: Tansu AY                                                  Age Group: 10-11

Learning Stage of Class: 5th Grade                                       Level of Proficiency: Elementary

Size of class: 30                                                                     Duration: 40 min.

Lesson Tittle: Countries and Flags                                        Equipment Needed: Textbook,       

flags, puppet (Bart Simpson), song, computer, speakers

Objectives
·         By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify at least four names of countries (i.e. Italy, the USA…)
·         By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify pronunciation given words correctly.
·         By the end of the lesson, students will be able to improve their speaking skills.
·         Students will be able to ask for and provide simple personal information.

Procedure

Warm-up
·         The teacher comes to class with a puppet, Bart Simpson. S/he introduces it.

·         The teacher asks Bart where he was from, and Bart replies. He says: "I am from the USA. Do you know the USA?", and "Let’s watch a video".

·         The teacher plays the video and says them listen carefully. They listen to the song twice. At second they stand up and everybody sings the song together.
While-stage
·         The teacher shows some flags to children, takes Turkish flag and begins to speak.
·         S/he says: "I am from Turkey. My nationality is Turkish and my language is Turkish". The teacher repeats for them.

·         S/he gives the flags for each students, chooses a student randomly, and asks her/him where you are from, what your nationality is and what your language is”. And then, the students ask each other.

Post-stage
  • After the activity, everybody has a flag/ country, the students come to the board and write their own information orderly.The teacher corrects and checks their mistakes.
