LESSON PLAN

LESSON TITLE                      : Natural disasters
DURATION                           : 40 min.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED            : Tape and projector
    SIZE OF CLASS                   : 30

OBJECTIVES/GOALS:
1.  At the end of the lesson students will be able to use new words in meaningful sentences. (Flood, tsunami, earthquake, tornado, etc.)
2. At the end of the lesson students will be able to manipulate to WH questions.
3. At the end of the lesson students will be able to apply Simple Past tense by using the verbs practiced in the lesson. (I.e. happened, killed, was/were, caused, etc.)


   Warm-up:  (15 min)
Teacher starts the lesson with showing the pictures related to the natural disasters. Then,   
teacher asks questions:
 -Do you know where earthquake, flood, tsunami, etc happened mostly?
 -Have you ever experienced one of these natural disasters? 
 -Can you remember any kind of disasters that happened up to now?
 -When did it happen?
 -Where did it happen?
 -How many people were killed because of natural disasters?





 

While-activity:   (15 min)

     In while activity, students will listen the dialogue related to the natural disasters. Before, they start to listen, teacher gives activity paper for each students. In the first listening, students will just listen and write under the pictures where these natural disasters happen mostly. Then, while they are listening second time, teacher asks them to fill in the blanks with the right words. After, they check fill in the blanks activity all together. Then, there is concept check questions related with the listening part. Teacher and students will do it all together.
     Then, the teacher has a video related with the topic and they all just watch it. After, teacher asks questions related to the video.
 -Where did it happen?    
 -When did it happen?
 -What caused the disaster?
 -How many people were killed because of disaster?
      
    These questions are taken from the course book. Teacher and students answer the question all together. Teacher writes the answers on the board.  Then, teacher creates group of four people and asks to students to find one natural disaster that happened before and asks students to answer these question. The teacher allows using phones to find information related with the questions. They also have a chance to use as an example answers on the board.

-It happened in Japan
-It happened at 14:46 on Friday 11 March 2011.
-Earthquake was caused to the thousands of people’s death. At the same time, earthquake was caused to the big tsunami.
-15.828 people were killed because of earthquake and tsunami.




     Post-activity:   (10 min)

    After, every group write a natural disaster, teacher and students talk about it and discuss which one is most worst one. Finally, there is an crossword, students will work in pairs and try to find the right words.

    SIZE OF CLASS                   : 30

OBJECTIVES/GOALS:
1.  At the end of the lesson students will be able to list the best place for holiday.
2. At the end of the lesson students will be able to plan the holiday trip
3. At the end of the lesson students will be able to use Present Continuous tense by using the verbs practiced in the lesson. (I.e. We are going to/are arriving/are observing/are eating/etc.)


   Warm-up:   (15 min)
Teacher starts the lesson with showing the pictures related to the big cities in the world. Then,   
teacher asks questions:
 - Have you ever been abroad? 
 - Do you have a dream city?
 - What is the most popular thing in your dream city?
 - Have you ever think about the visiting places in your dream city?
 - Which places do you want to visit firstly in your dream city?
 - Which language are they talking?
 - Do they have a special meal?
    In addition there are abbreviations before the reading part. Teacher just gives two minutes to find those abbreviations. They will work in pair and they can use their phones to find it. Then, teacher asks a question related to using abbreviations. Do you think is using abbreviations good for us? If it is good or bad, why do you think so?



 

While-activity:   (15 min)

     In while activity, students will read the paragraph from the book. Firstly, students will read the paragraph individually. Then, teacher asks what is the main idea of the paragraph. After, teacher chooses one volunteer to read the paragraph. And when student finish, there are some question related to the paragraph:
1.    Who is Ricardo going to holiday with?
2.    Which means of transport are they going to use?
3.    How many days is the journey going to take?
4.    What are they going to do in Ushuaia?
5.    Where are they going to see the floating icebergs
6.    How many days are they going to stay in Buenos Aires?
The reading part is Ricardo’s letter and his plan about what he is doing on holiday. After answering these questions, teacher asks some questions:
-      Where is the best/fantastic place for holiday?
-      Why/why not?
-      What kind of activities are you interested in doing while you are on holiday?
Then, teacher divides the class in group of four people, and wants from the each group to write a planning letter. Firstly, each group should choose one city from Turkey for holiday trip. And think that they will stay there for four days. Then, they will plan what they will do each day and where they will visit and what they will eat each day. Of course they will use their phones to Google it.


     Post-activity:  (10 min)

    In post activity, they will listen to every group and discuss which group’s holiday plan is most interesting.
